My Elevator Pitch

My name is Ana Raquel and I'm 17 years old.
I live with my father, my mother and my two sisters in Brazil. They are the most important thing in my life. My parents know that graduating abroad is my dream so they always supported me and they said that if I did my best, I would be able to accomplish it. Their support is really important to me.
In my free time I play the guitar, the keyboard or sing. I also like spending time with my friends. We usually go to each other's house and play board games or watch a movie. I love to travel and to know new places and cultures.

I went to New York City in 2011 and since then my affection for America grew a lot more. I've always liked the English language and that trip was a great opportunity for me to improve it even more. I also speak a little Spanish and I'm having French classes every friday night. It would be an amazing thing for me to study French in Canada, since I've always wanted to go there for it seems to be really calm and peaceful place.
I get along with everyone in my class and I was elected the class representant of my year. Their confidence in me meant a lot, so I'm doing my best to represent them the best way I can.
I'm on the scout group and there we are taught discipline, respect for the environment and camp skills.
On mondays and wednesdays I visit an old folks home and a few times a month, an orphanage in my neighborhood.

I want to major in Chemistry, International Relations or Tourism. I'm a senior so I know I have to make up my mind as soon as possible, but I want to make sure I choose a subject I'm not going to regret.

My Hobbies

  • Photography:
  • Theater: School plays.
  • Music: Keyboard, guitar and flute.
  • Vocal: In the choir, at school and I've recorded a few songs.
  • Athletics: Handball and a little bit of basketball at school.
additional comments: I like to spend my time studying because I know its for the best, but there are some other things that I do to relax a bit and have fun. I meditate daily, and it became an important part of my daily basis because it brings me great pleasure and peace. I'm always listening to music too, it helps me concentrate more and take my mind off problems. I like to draw and paint, even though I'm not that good, I just do it for the sake of art. Every weekend I like to wake up early and go around my city taking pictures. The morning light is something splendid. On my vacations, I love going to the beach with my family, we enjoy the sea, the sun and have more time for each other.
list of honors and awards: Won scholarships for first and second year of high school. (2011-2012)
Won an award at school's science fair. Along with friends, used chemistry experiments to demonstrate special effects used on famous movies "Chemistry in the Cinema". (2012)

My International Experience

Type: Travel

name of organization/institution: MS Turismo
where? United States
when? 09/07/2011 until 26/07/2011
brief explanation: I decided to go to NYC because I always saw it on television and it seemed very beautiful. But it was more. It was magical. I still remember me standing in the middle of Times Square and looking up. I felt like I could do anything. It was also because I've always loved English and I wanted to talk to native speakers so I could improve my speaking and listening skills. When I went to Orlando I learnt a lot of vocabulary and met some friends I still talk to nowadays.
would I do it again? Absolutely!

My GPA on my educational system:
GPA stands for Grade Point Average, which is a measure of a student's academic achievement at a college or university; calculated by dividing the total number of grade points received by the total number attempted. It reflects the weighted mathematical average of the quality of your work, as indicated by your grades.

Why a GPA?
Knowing your GPA is the simplest way to learn how you compare to others when you apply to study in other countries. Colleges and universities want to evaluate your grades based on their own GPA scale.
